Preventing Suicide in the Workplace 2024 - 10 September 2024 (On Demand)

Description

In this free webinar we are joined by Michael Hempseed of Frontiers of Hope who will talk about how we can Empower Lives: Combatting Crisis Together. In these challenging times, New Zealanders face a cost-of-living crisis that impacts mental health. Our urgent mission? Suicide prevention. Workplaces can make a difference by learning how to respond effectively in moments of crisis." Let’s save lives together.”

Life is very tough at the moment for many New Zealanders. The cost-of-living crisis is starting to affect many individuals and businesses across the nation. In difficult economic times, the suicide rate often rises, but there are things that can be done to prevent suicide. There has never been a more urgent time for workplaces to take active and practical steps to prevent suicide.

Some people believe that there is nothing they can do to stop someone dying from suicide, they think “If we stop them doing it one way, they will do it another way.” This is not correct at all; research suggests that if you can stop someone in the moment of crisis then there is an exceptionally high chance they will live. In order to help people, everyone needs to know how to respond to a suicidal crisis.

The webinar will cover…

  • The many reasons why people become suicidal.
  • Common myths and misconceptions about suicide.
  • How to help someone who is in a suicidal crisis and where to find help.
  • Why sleep deprivation plays a significant role in suicide.
  • A recent study found 60% of male suicides are not the result of mental illness, what does cause this?
  • How the topic of suicide can be addressed safely within the workplace.
  • How to support staff if there has been a death by suicide in the workplace.
  • The entire webinar is evidence based and follows best practice guidelines.
