Write Better Excel 2025 – Tips for Total Beginners

Description

Excel spreadsheets can be an incredibly powerful tool. Many office-based roles provide dozens of opportunities to employ Excel, whether to manage simple lists or to create complex models.

For the many people who get thrown into the deep end by using Excel before properly learning the basics, this practical webinar aims to improve their knowledge of the fundamentals from the very beginning.

This is the first part of 5 popular webinars in 2025 covering smart ways to efficiently use Microsoft Excel. This session will cover the first steps to understanding many of the key areas of Excel which regularly pop up as issues in understanding small spreadsheets.

During the webinar we will run through brief illustrative examples to explain the content. The session will include:

  • Introduction
  • Orientation
  • Case Study
  • Entering data & selecting cells
  • An introduction to equations & functions
  • The vital concepts:
    • Relative and absolute cell referencing
    • Copy versus cut
    • Adding and removing rows & columns
  • Printing
  • Getting help
  • Q&A

This webinar will not teach attendees to blindly click on functions and hope for the best, but will arm them to understand what is happening within their spreadsheets at a more fundamental level. An understanding of some general Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word documents) will be an advantage.

The 5 webinars in the Write Better Excel series (in the order presented and the order of difficulty) are as follows:
