PRESENTER

Sid Wellik, Special Counsel, Oceanlaw New Zealand.

Based in Nelson, Sid Wellik is both a Special Counsel at Oceanlaw New Zealand and a Principal at Hamish.Fletcher Lawyers. Sid has been in legal practice for over 20 years and has been advising on health and safety for over 10 years. His previous roles include Chief Legal Advisor at both WorkSafe New Zealand and Fire and Emergency New Zealand, as well as Manager Legal Services at Maritime New Zealand (the maritime health and safety regulator). Sid has also worked at ANZ Bank, Crown Law, and the Civil Aviation Authority.

His previous work includes legal oversight of the Whakaari – White Island prosecution (WorkSafe New Zealand), advice during the COVID-19 pandemic regarding front-line firefighters (at Fire and Emergency) and advising on the response to the MV Rena oil spill (at Maritime New Zealand).
